Introduction
The who, what and why of this guide
This is a guide on making a website that I spent many hours constructing. You will learn exactly how to make the website shown to the right of this paragraph, click on it to view the full version.
There are 5 parts to this guide that cover the complete design and development process of a modern web design. This guide requires that you have a copy of Adobe Photoshop, and make a few purchases (for a minimal cost) at iStockPhoto.com.
You will learn how to make a website starting from the concept design, to the html and css.
What
This guide will take you through every step involved in designing and developing the front end of a website. There are 5 sections to this guide and each section is outlined below:
- Part 1 - Concept Design in Photoshop
The full website design of the home page in Adobe Photoshop. This is where we design exactly what the homepage will look like in the browser.
- Part 2 - Image Slicing
We will take the design created in Step 2, and prepare the images for use within the CSS portion (Step 5)
- Part 3 - Flash
We will take the bottle we designed in Part 2, and animate it in flash. This is an optional step!
- Part 4 - HTML
The HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) coding necessary for our home page design.
- Part 5 - CSS
The CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) coding necessary for our home page design.
Who
My name is Gary Simon. I have over 10 years experience designing and building websites. I’ve designed hundreds of websites and over a thousand logos in my time as a designer. I’m 26 and located in Cortland OH.
I am 100% self employed and I make my money through client design work, and also through other internet based services I own. Apart from the internet, my other interests include fitness and music.
Why
I love web design and I love helping others. Many people wish they could design a professional website properly, but lack the know-how. There is also a severe lack of comprehensive up-to-date guides on the subject. This guide will provide you with a great foundation in which you can begin to make a website.
All of the steps involved may seem daunting at first, but if you stick with it, it will become second nature. You will definitely have questions along the way, which is why you should use a search engine like Google. Almost every question you have regarding this subject has been answered already.
So let’s get started!
