Effective logo design specification

Please read the following information in order to help me design you the best possible logo.

 

Be Specific!

I've designed logos for several years now, and have done it for full time through GarySimon.net for over half a year. One of my biggest pet peeves is when clients leave out details. The only thing I have to work off of, is the information you provide on that form. And sometimes after I design the primary logo, clients get upset because "It's not what I wanted". More often than not, it's their fault because they left out details on the form. So please, provide me with as much information as possible.

It's always *very* helpful when clients provide me with examples of logos they like. This will help me understand what type of *style* you're going after. What makes for a "good" logo design?

While you know your business or project best, I know logo design best. And it's very important for the sake of your business / brand, that you understand what an effective logo is. More often than not, the most effective logo for your business will be one that is kept simple. Think about all of the logos everyone knows from major businesses and corporations. Take a look at the following compilations of logos: examples 1, example 2. You will notice they aren't very elaborate creations with many elements. You want a logo that your customers / visitors can remember, and people remember things that are both simple, and unique. Let's say for example you want a logo for a flower business, would it make sense to request the symbol as being a rose? No, because that's expected, it's not unique. Now sure, you can have some type of *element* of a rose depicted in some type of unique fashion, but just a rose in and of itself is not a good request.
